About West Mercian Wing

Geographically speaking, West Mercian Wing (coloured green on the map) is one of the largest in the Air Training Corps drawing its boundaries from those of West Mercian Wing (Green) in Wales and West Region (Red)the old counties of Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, which is why it includes one squadron located in Cheshire and four located in the West Midlands. As county boundaries have been redrawn that of West Mercian Wing has remained static.

The Wings's current strength is 26 squadrons, including No. 1 (Overseas) Sqn at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus. The Wing was formerly part of North West Region, but as the Corps restructured to six regions it joined Staffordshire and Merseyside as the three English Wings in the newly formed Wales and West Region (coloured red on the map.)

West Mercian Wing has it's headquarters at DCAE Cosford and is commanded by Wing Commander Malcolm Lloyd RAFVR(T).
